The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a police sergeant, Osayingbemi Temitope, over alleged misconduct and illicit drug use.

The officer was seen in a viral video acting erratically, with authorities suspecting he may have been under the influence of an illicit drug.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the dismissal in a statement issued on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Abutu stated that the command had concluded both medical and psychological evaluations as well as internal disciplinary procedures concerning the officer.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on 9 May 2026, in Ikole-Ekiti after the officer allegedly consumed illicit substances, leading to what the command described as “an unfortunate and ridiculous incident” captured in a video circulated widely on social media.

The PPRO explained that the officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological examinations following the incident.

“The psychological evaluation revealed that the officer is emotionally stable, while the medical test showed that the officer tested positive for Tobacco and Amphetamine,” the statement read.

Abutu added that during further investigation, the dismissed officer reportedly confessed to taking illicit drugs.

The command stated that after the completion of internal disciplinary proceedings, the officer was found culpable and subsequently recommended for dismissal, a recommendation that was later approved by the authorities.

“The Command hereby confirms his dismissal which shall take immediate effect,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and discipline, the police command stressed that it would not condone acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Force.

“The Force remains a disciplined organisation and will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, unprofessional practice or any conduct capable of ridiculing the image of the Force,” the command stated.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Michael Falade, has charged officers and men of the command to uphold professionalism, accountability, integrity and dedication in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

He urged personnel to remain committed to the protection of lives and property while conducting themselves in a manner that would sustain public confidence in the police institution.
