The Zamfara State Police Command has foiled an attempted attack by suspected armed bandits on Ruwan Dorowa District. Police News Updates

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, March 2, 2026.

According to the PPRO, the incident occurred at about 8pm on March 1 when a large group of gunmen reportedly advanced into the community through the Maru axis.

The attackers were said to have targeted residents observing Isha’i congregational prayers.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer swiftly mobilised the division’s strike force in collaboration with military personnel to the affected area.

Upon sighting the joint security team, the bandits opened fire, leading to a gun duel.

However, the security operatives overpowered the attackers with superior firepower and coordinated tactics, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot injuries.

DSP Yazid said patrols and surveillance have been intensified in and around the district to prevent further threats and reassure residents.

He urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative by providing timely and useful information to security agencies.

The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against banditry and other crimes, assuring residents that it remains resolute in its determination to rid Zamfara State of criminal elements and maintain public safety.
