Social media users are reacting after entertainment blogger Cutie Juls made startling claims about alleged preferential treatment for wealthy inmates inside the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
In a post shared on Instagram, the blogger alleged that there is a special section within the prison known as “Abuja Quarters,” where inmates who can afford it allegedly pay ₦300,000 monthly for private accommodation and access to better living conditions.
Sharing the claims, Cutie Juls wrote:
“There’s a lot going on in Kirikiri prison.
Some people’s rent in Prison is more expensive than people not in prison.
There’s a ward in Kirikiri prison called ABUJA QUATERS.
If you choose to stay there while serving your jail term, you will be paying N300k a month. Even if you go on remand for 2 days and you want to stay in Abuja QUATERS, you will still have to pay for the whole month which is N300k.
In this Abuja QUATERS ward, the inmate is allowed to personalise the room as it’s just for one person.
We confirmed Ariket, the popular Lagos socialite woman who is currently serving a jail term for drug-related offence is staying in one of the wards in Abuja QUATERS, Kirikiri Correctional Centre and she even has an air conditioner in her prison room.
Popular Chidinma who is awaiting trial was also moved by one of the Ogas prison officers at Kirikiri into this famous Abuja QUATERS after winning the prison beauty pageant.
Those prisoners at this Abuja QUATERS engage the services of other prisoners as their domestic staff who help them clean etc and get paid for it.
If you are fortunate to be employed as a cleaner by a rich inmate and you don’t sort the officer that recommended you, your own don almost finish because they will not pitch you to clean for any other rich inmate for a very long time.
There is also that side that the ‘poor’ inmates stay. It’s that side that your body, mind and soul will tell you that indeed you are in prison. 😩
Omo, prison life dey expensive o, if you no get so let’s be careful and stay out of crime.”
The post has generated widespread discussion online, with many expressing surprise over the alleged existence of a premium prison ward and the reported treatment of wealthy inmates.
