Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, popularly known as Illbliss, has issued a public apology following a social media altercation regarding the economic contributions of the Igbo ethnic group in Lagos State.

The controversy began over the weekend when Illbliss sparked an online debate by asserting that Igbos have contributed immensely to the Lagos economy, specifically pointing to their impact on the real estate sector. In his initial post on the social media platform X, the rapper added that anyone who disagreed with his stance should “go hug a transformer.”

The comment drew sharp criticism, including a hostile response from an X user who told the rapper and other Igbos to “vacate” Lagos and return to their “erosion-filled and barren land.”

Infuriated by the remark, Illbliss countered: “We bought all your land and will resell to you.”

Following widespread backlash, the musician took to his Instagram page on Monday morning, June 15,  to express regret. He apologised for the tone of his response, clarifying that it was not intended to disrespect Lagos.

“I am sorry if my comment appeared brash,” Illbliss stated, acknowledging that Lagos State has accommodated the Igbo people and supported their art, businesses, and growth for decades.
