Former Big Brother Naija housemate Leo DaSilva has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the family of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, advising people to consider recording video wills to avoid disputes after their death.
According to reports, Alex Ekubo passed away in May 2026 after battling kidney cancer and was laid to rest in his hometown on June 18, 2026.
However, tension reportedly arose within the family shortly after his burial. Members of the actor’s biological mother’s family allegedly questioned his stepmother, who had raised him since he was seven years old, over the circumstances of his death and claims that family members were prevented from viewing his body.
The controversy later intensified following allegations that Alex’s elder sister reached out to a blogger to publish stories critical of the stepmother, whom the late actor had publicly acknowledged as his mother.
The situation has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning why Alex’s biological mother, who was said to have left him at a young age, became involved after his death. Others speculated that disagreements over the actor’s estate may have contributed to the family rift.
Amid the growing debate, Leo DaSilva shared his thoughts, recommending the use of video wills. He encouraged individuals to clearly document their wishes regarding the distribution of their assets, saying such recordings could help prevent misunderstandings and conflicts among family members after their passing.

“I wish people understand that blood relatives can still mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. They could be your enemies and they could actually not even be in your life.
“This is why I always suggest video wills. Make a video of exactly what you expect after your death so that people don’t confuse your enemies for your family because of relation by blood.”
