Ahead of the February 21 by-elections in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its ward congresses in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to elect delegates for the party’s primaries.

The by-elections are being held to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, with the elected delegates expected to choose the APC’s candidates for the affected constituencies.

In Ahoada East State Constituency II, the congress was supervised by a seven-member party congress committee chaired by Smart Iheanazo. Members of the party’s appeal committee were also present.

The committee toured the six wards in the constituency to monitor the exercise and ensure strict compliance with APC guidelines.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observed the process, led by the Assistant Electoral Officer (Operations) for the local government area, Okogbule Emilia.

At the conclusion of the congress, five delegates emerged from each ward.

A similar exercise took place in Khana Local Government Area, where delegates were selected in line with the APC constitution and electoral procedures.

The process was overseen by the party’s Delegate Congress and Primary Election Committee, chaired by Oyoala Peter.

INEC officials also monitored the congress, while security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police, were deployed to maintain order.

As in Ahoada East, five delegates were elected from each ward in Khana.
