Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr are reportedly facing financial difficulties that have disrupted the club’s transfer plans and delayed salary payments to members of the first-team squad.
According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, the club is experiencing a liquidity shortage that has affected its day-to-day operations during pre-season preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The report claims some first-team players received only part of their June wages, with outstanding payments yet to be settled.
The development has raised concerns at the club despite Al-Nassr’s significant investment in recent years, including the signing of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Transfer activity put on hold
The reported financial constraints have also forced Al-Nassr to suspend recruitment plans ahead of the new season.
The club had been searching for a replacement for Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, whose departure was confirmed last week.
However, negotiations for a new signing have reportedly been halted because of the current cash-flow situation.
Central midfield had been identified as a priority position to strengthen, but the reported lack of available funds has prevented the club from pursuing its preferred targets.
If the situation continues, Al-Nassr could begin the new season without reinforcing a key area of the squad.
Challenge for Postecoglou
The reported financial issues present an early challenge for new head coach Ange Postecoglou as he prepares the team for a campaign that includes the Saudi Pro League, King’s Cup, Saudi Super Cup and AFC Champions League Elite.
With transfer activity reportedly frozen and salary payments delayed, uncertainty has overshadowed preparations for the defence of the league title.
The club has not publicly commented on the reports.
