Popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has come under heavy criticism on social media after commenting on the recent school abduction incident in Oyo State.
The singer had shared a video where she expressed deep concern over the attack, which reportedly led to the forceful abduction of schoolchildren. During the incident, a teacher was also said to have lost his life, while disturbing clips from the scene circulated online and sparked widespread outrage.
In her video, Tiwa Savage said she only became aware of the incident after seeing a post by fellow musician Spyro. She explained that she was shocked the matter had not gained much attention online, considering how serious it was.
She also revealed that while trying to get more information, she came across a post by media personality KieKie, who stated that the incident actually happened nearly two weeks earlier.
“The kidnapping that happened in Oyo State, it was just yesterday that Spyro was speaking about it, that I heard about it. I tried to reach out to some people to know the background story because it was not trending. I saw KieKie’s post, and she said it was almost two weeks ago,” she said.
However, her comments triggered mixed reactions on X (formerly Twitter), with many users accusing her of reacting too late to the situation.
Some critics claimed she had not been attentive enough to national issues, while others went further to allege political bias, describing her as “pro-Tinubu,” and suggesting that some celebrities only speak up when there is public pressure.
A section of social media users also mocked her emotional tone in the video, sarcastically saying she “deserved an award” for her reaction.
