Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen militia have again attacked Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan, in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, k!lling a father and his son.

A former councillor in Kwande, Mr Akerigba Lawrence, disclosed this in a message to newsmen in Makurdi on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

The councillor said the victims, who were farmers, were k!lled while trying to earn a living.

“Again, there was a brutal attack on our community by Fulani insurgents yesterday, Wednesday, 14 January 2026, at Imande Avur, Abande, Mbaikyor, Turan, Kwande LGA of Benue State,” the message read.

“During the attack, Elder Abur Alam and his son, Ikyaa Bashi, peaceful farmers, were killed while trying to earn a living.”

He noted that, following the attacks, several residents had been displaced, while others were living in great fear.

Akerigba expressed concern that the attacks had become frequent and warned that, if allowed to go unchecked, the consequences would be devastating.

The former councillor also lamented that the absence of timely intervention by security agencies had worsened the situation, while affected families received no meaningful support.

“For the past two weeks, our people have been attacked and k!lled every day. The government has forgotten about us. This is a wake-up call. The people of Turan can no longer endure this bloodshed. Immediate action is required to stop these attacks, protect lives, and ensure justice. Enough is enough,” Akerigba added.
