Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have k!lled a former councilor, Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan, in Benue State.

Hon. Paul was a councilor representing Nzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government area of Benue State.

Mbatsaver was reportedly murdered on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at his residence in his village at Tse Azahaan, Mbagen, Nzorov Council Ward of the area.

Sources said the assailants stormed his house in the late hours of the night and attacked him.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning and heightened fears over the worsening security situation in rural parts of the state.

Local residents described the late former councillor as a grassroots politician who was well known in the area, while calling on security agencies to swiftly investigate the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, even as tension continues to rise in the affected community amid concerns of further attacks
