Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has urged members of Generation Z to stop portraying Nigeria as a country where people are struggling with hunger, insisting that the nation has recorded improvements in recent years.
Olayinka made the remarks while speaking about the economic situation in Nigeria and the growing concerns raised by young people over the rising cost of living.
According to him, technological advancement has created employment opportunities for many Nigerians, particularly young people, making it important for Gen Zs to have a different perspective on the country’s progress.
He also argued that homelessness and economic hardship are not peculiar to Nigeria, noting that people experience similar challenges even in developed countries.
“Nigeria has improved. Technology has provided jobs for a lot of people; so Gen Zs should stop the mindset of telling people that there’s hunger. Even in developed countries, there are homeless people,” he said.
His comments are likely to generate reactions, particularly among young Nigerians who have continued to express concerns about hunger, unemployment and the increasing cost of living across the country.
