A travel vlogger has sparked conversation online after comparing the cost of renting an apartment in Lagos to what she experienced during a stay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Sharing a tour of her apartment, she revealed that the fully furnished space came with amenities including a gym, swimming pool, 24-hour security, workstations, kitchen appliances and a central location.

According to her, a similar apartment in Kuala Lumpur rents for between $250 and $350 monthly, which she said works out to about ₦4.2 million annually.

Expressing frustration over the situation in Lagos, she argued that many tenants are being asked to pay higher rents for empty apartments that still require furnishing and repairs.

“The more I travel, the more I realise that Lagos is extremely, ridiculously expensive. You pay a lot of money and do not get value for what you’re paying for,” she said.

She also questioned how residents are expected to cope with rising housing costs amid Nigeria’s economic realities, describing the current state of the rental market as “crazy.”
