Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statement honoring her husband for his support has sparked mixed reactions.

Natasha, the Senator representing Kogi Central, shared photos of her and her husband High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom. The couple is seen holding the primary elections senatorial form.

In the caption, she wrote: “My beloved husband,

“If you had said no, I would not have taken this step towards the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial elections. But you did not. Instead, you looked into my heart, understood the depth of my purpose in consideration of our peoples’ calling and chose to stand firmly beside me.

By taking it upon yourself, out of your deep and unwavering belief in me, to purchase my 2027 senatorial nomination form, you did far more than support a political ambition. You affirmed a shared vision. You declared, without hesitation, that you are ready to walk this journey with me…through the campaigns,
through the elections,  and all the way to victory for our people.”

She continued hailing her husband while assuring him of her love and respect.

Her post generated mixed reactions.

Some questioned why she would say that she would not contest if her husband had not agreed to it. They asked how many men would say that they would not contest if their wives failed to give consent.

Others stated that marriage is a partnership and everyone – male or female – would need their spouse’s support before taking such a huge step.

Calling out Natasha, businesswoman Roberta Edu wrote: “This is where Natasha and I draw the line.

“You are a woman Senator, representing a people, and in your quest to return to the Senate, you are telling me that if your husband hadn’t told you to run again, you would not have.

“That means you do not have the vision—your husband does. You do not have the willingness to serve, or things you need to come back to fix, it is your husband ordering you to. And because I cannot support people who lack their own conviction, I am withdrawing my support.

“What kind of pick-me card are you trying to play, squashing your vision and telling us you are only running because your spouse commanded it?

“This cannot be the Natasha I have been fighting Akpabio for. What if Akpabio tells your husband to ask you not to run again.”
