Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly repelled a terrorist ambush after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated along the Damboa–Kumala road in Borno state.

Citing security sources, Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred at about 1pm on Saturday, July 4, while troops, supported by members of the civilian joint task force (CJTF), were escorting 63 civilian vehicles to Kumala.

The publication said the convoy encountered an IED along the main supply route linking Damboa, Bulabulin and Kumala.

Makama added that suspected terrorists launched an ambush shortly after the expl@sion, about two kilometres from the blast site.

According to Makama, the explosion damaged the tyres of two mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles, but no casualties were recorded among the troops or the civilians under escort.

Makama added that the troops completed the escort mission after replacing the damaged tyres at the scene and later ensured the safe return of 71 civilian vehicles from Kumala to Damboa.

Military sources told Makama that the operation demonstrated the resolve of Operation HADIN KAI to keep critical supply routes open and ensure the safe movement of civilians despite persistent terrorist threats in the north-east.
