Super Eagles attacker, Victor Osimhen, has come under fire at his club base in Turkey amid allegations that he deliberately engineered a suspension ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tournament.

Osimhen is expected to join his colleagues in the Nigeria squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations any time soon.

Going into Saturday’s Super Lig game against Antalyaspor, the Nigerian was walking a disciplinary tightrope having already collected bookings against Beşiktaş, Kocaelispor and Fenerbahçe.

His 85th minute yellow card against Antalyaspor on Saturday meant that the Super Eagles super striker has now been banned for one match.

Osimhen will not be available for the game against Kasımpaşa next weekend and with the striker named in the Super Eagles’ 28-man squad for the AFCON, he will now serve the ban during the international tournament.

Turkish outlet, Gazete Gerçek, reports that Osimhen could yet be referred to the Turkish Football Federation Disciplinary Committee, PFDK, for more investigation.

Article 37 of the disciplinary code covers cases of players allegedly “deliberately receiving a yellow card”.

If found guilty, according to the Article 37 of the PFDK, the player could be banned for two games.

Matches Osimhen could miss if the Super Eagles progress to the final are İstanbul Başakşehir, Kasımpaşa, Fethiyespor, Trabzonspor and Gaziantep FK.
