Suspected armed herders have k!lled four security operatives at Udei community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to Punch, the incident happened on Tuesday evening, July 8, when a team of joint security operatives was on a patrol of the area.

The joint security team, codenamed the Buffalo Squad of Operation Zenda, was comprised of men of the Mobile Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Counter-Terrorism Unit of the Police, and the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.

A security source told journalists on Thursday that the team was attacked while on routine patrol along the Daudu-Yelewata road.

“Members of the team were patrolling the Daudu-Yelewata axis Tuesday evening when they got to Udei and spotted a smoke billowing from the community about two kilometres from the express road,” the source said.

“They immediately drove into the bush to ascertain the reason for the fire. And on getting close to the community, they ran into an ambush by armed herdsmen in large numbers on motorbikes who were busy burning down the village

“In the ensuing gunfight, three of the security personnel were k!lled; one of them was, however, declared missing, and when a call was put to his mobile phone later, somebody who spoke in a strange language picked up the call. So it was obvious that they k!lled him.”

It was gathered that two mobile policemen and two civil defence officers lost their lives during the exchange of fire.

The source added that the security personnel later on Wednesday reinforced and moved to the ungoverned areas around the environment, where they declared a total onslaught to clear out the armed men.

The State Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Michael Ejelikwu, confirmed the loss of two personnel in the attack.

“Yes, I can sadly and regrettably confirm the k!lling of two of our personnel, ASCI Simon Adoli and ASCI Ernest Ayilla, who both paid the supreme price defending their fatherland during a joint security team clear-out operation at Udei, Guma LGA on July 8, 2025, at about 4:38 pm,” he said.

“Let me state unequivocally that the Corps is not deterred by these coordinated and sustained attacks by these marauding k!ller herdsmen and their collaborators; the NSCDC, in synergy with other security agencies, will continue to defend the territorial integrity of the Nigerian nation.”

Bandits k!ll cleric and abduct 20 Worshippers In Kaduna
The abducted principal of the Junior Secondary School (JSS), Naharati in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, Zakari Abdulkadir Yelwa and his daughter, Hafsat Dauda, have regained their freedom. LIB had reported that kidnappers invaded the victims’ residence opposite the Government Science Technical College (GSTC), Abaji last Tuesday night, October 21, and whisked away the principal, his wife, and his daughter. The principal’s wife, Mrs. Rakiya Zakari Yelwa, was ordered to return home by the kidnappers when she could not walk fast. The principal, while narrating his experience to Daily Trust at his residence on Sunday, October 25, said he and his daughter were freed on Saturday night after paying a N3.1 million ransom. He said life in the kidnappers’ den was like “hell,” and he prays that no one experiences such trauma. The principal said he and his daughter trekked through the forest throughout the night until they arrived at the kidnappers’ camp “On that very night, we walked throughout the night till dawn. As the morning set in, they kept us in a valley until it was getting dark again before we continued trekking until we arrived at their camp,” he said. According to him, his abductors fed him and his daughter with garri and yam, which, he said, they harvested from some people’s farms near the camp. He said the kidnappers used pieces of cloth to cover their faces until they were freed around 6:45 pm on Saturday at a forest that borders Toto LGA of Nasarawa and Kogi states. He added that apart from the N3.1 million cash ransom, the kidnappers also collected two cartons of malt, one carton of milk, bread, and some packets of cigarettes The principal thanked his colleagues, friends, and family members for their support and prayers. He also commended the vigilantes for their swift response during the attack at his residence.
