Everton have completed the loan signing of Chelsea winger Tyrique George until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer transfer window.

  • Moyes factor and squad context

The Merseyside club moved quickly to secure the 19-year-old, who had drawn interest from another Premier League side and a European club.

George arrives at Goodison Park as Everton conclude their market activities in the winter window.

Loan move with long-term option

The deal includes a clause that allows Everton to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season, giving the club flexibility based on the player’s development and performance.

A product of Chelsea’s academy, George has made 37 senior appearances for the Blues, scoring six goals across competitions.

While he has not been a regular starter, Chelsea view him as a high-potential asset, making the loan an opportunity for consistent top-flight minutes.

Speaking after completing the move, George highlighted the club’s culture as a key factor in his decision. “The fans here are exceptional. I know Evertonians are really passionate. They like hard work, and that’s what I’m going to show,” he said.

Moyes factor and squad context

Manager David Moyes played a central role in convincing the winger to choose Everton. George was clear about the appeal of working under the experienced coach.

“The gaffer, David Moyes, was another reason [I wanted to join]. He’s an amazing manager who has coached so many players, like Wayne Rooney, and players like that,” he said.

He added: “I’ve had a brief conversation with him and he’s an amazing person as well. I just want to enjoy it, learn under him and improve.”

George’s arrival comes amid fitness concerns within the Everton squad. Moyes recently confirmed that Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish “probably” requires surgery on a fractured foot and is expected to be “out for the season,” increasing the need for attacking reinforcements.

The winger becomes Everton’s second signing of the winter window, following the arrival of Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl on a season-long loan deal that includes an obligation to buy for £17.3m in 2026.

For Everton, the George deal represents a low-risk, high-upside move aligned with short-term squad needs and longer-term planning.
