Manchester United legend, Teddy Sheringham, has identified two Arsenal players who could replicate his and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impact during the Champions League final against PSG on Saturday.
Sheringham and Solskjaer are renowned for their roles in one of football’s most remarkable comebacks in 1999.
The pair entered the match as substitutes in the second half of the Champions League final, scoring in the 91st and 93rd minutes to clinch a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich.
This triumph secured the treble for Manchester United, and Sheringham is confident that Arsenal possesses the potential to create a similar narrative in Europe this season.
When asked which Arsenal players could achieve what he and Solskjaer accomplished for United, he named Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze.
Sheringham was quoted by The Mirror via Boyle Sports, “If they require two players to rise to the occasion in injury time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and I did for Manchester United in 1999, I believe it will be Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard who will deliver the victory.
“They are both exceptional players who understand how to finish. Our goals were somewhat scrappy, but these two strike the ball as it should be struck.”
The former United striker emphasized that both Odegaard and Eze have the ability to score from both inside and outside the penalty area. Due to their accurate finishing skills, Sheringham is optimistic that the north London team can secure a win.
He added, “I have a great appreciation for both players, and if the ball comes to them in the right way, they can score from anywhere within twenty-five yards of the goal. Whether inside or outside the box, they are both very precise with their finishing, making them capable of scoring the decisive goals for Arsenal.”
Arsenal have yet to win the Champions League, with their last appearance in the final resulting in a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in 2006.
