Benfica manager, Jose Mourinho has explained why Chelsea defeated his team 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Mourinho watched as his former club Chelsea defeated Benfica at Stamford Bridge following Richard Ríos’ own goal.

Speaking at his post-match interview after the game, Mourinho believes Enzo Maresca’s side defeated his team because of one defensive mistake.

According to him, Benfica, who lost because of a Ríos’ own goal, deserved a point against the hosts.

“We deserved something,” Mourinho, who has coached Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the past, said.

“We started well, we controlled and had chances for sure. The goal is the only mistake we made defensively.”

Benfica will now face FC Porto in their domestic league this weekend.
