University of Georgia football player Nyier Daniels has been arrested and booked on multiple charges after allegedly attempting to flee from police in Commerce, Georgia. The redshirt freshman offensive lineman was taken into custody on Sunday, November 23, in the small city about 20 miles from Athens, where the university is located.

Daniels was arrested on three felony counts, including two counts of second-degree cruelty to children and one count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. He also faces several misdemeanor charges, among them reckless driving and failure to stop at stop signs.

According to a report by Fox 5 Atlanta, citing the Commerce Police Department, officers initially pulled over Daniels’ mother for running a stop sign. During the stop, Daniels allegedly sped past the officers at more than 100 miles per hour, prompting police to pursue him.

Police say the chase was complicated when Daniels’ mother allegedly obstructed the officers’ pursuit. Daniels was later turned over to authorities after a University of Georgia coach reportedly brought him back to surrender.

Daniels’ mother was also booked on multiple violations, including speeding, running a stop sign, obstruction, fleeing, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.
