Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has sparked reactions online after speaking about his wealth, business investments and future ambitions during a recent interview with Capital XTRA.
During the interview in October 2026, the singer was asked whether he was on track to become the first billionaire in the Afrobeats industry.
Mr Eazi responded with humour, explaining that his answer depended on the currency being discussed. According to him, he has already attained billionaire status when measured in Nigerian naira.
He also extended the claim to Zimbabwean dollars and Ghanaian cedis, prompting laughter during the conversation.
However, when asked specifically about becoming a billionaire in US dollars, the singer expressed optimism while making it clear that accumulating wealth was not his primary goal.
“US dollars, you know, soon come. I’m not really looking for that, that’s not the target. But I see it; it’s coming. Anytime now,” he said.
Beyond discussions about his financial status, Mr Eazi spoke about the values that matter most to him as an artiste. He identified freedom, particularly the ability to make music and release it on his own terms, as one of his biggest priorities.
The conversation also highlighted his interests outside the music industry. When the host mentioned his stake in Shubh’s, a UK-based ticketing company, Mr Eazi confirmed his involvement, further drawing attention to his business ventures.
Another notable moment came when the host suggested that the singer could be regarded as “Africa’s Jay-Z,” comparing his music career and business interests to those of the American rap mogul.
Mr Eazi appeared to welcome the comparison but humorously pointed out that, despite the similarities, they remained different individuals.
“Jay-Z is Jay-Z. I’m Mr Eazi. Jay-Z has Beyoncé and not Tamey,” he said.
His comments have since drawn attention to his financial ambitions, entrepreneurial interests and desire to maintain creative independence while building his career beyond music.
