Former Super Eagles defender, Ifeanyi Udeze has expressed disappointment with the Golden Eaglets defeat to Niger Republic.

The Nigerian youngsters lost 2-1 to Niger in their opening fixture at the ongoing 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ouagadougou on Wednesday night.

Niger took the lead in the 19th minute through Abdoul Razaq Zada, while Abdoul Rakilou doubled the advantage seven minutes from time.

Mubarak Fasiu reduced the deficit for Nigeria deep into stoppage time.

The Golden Eaglets must now beat Côte d’Ivoire in their last group match to stand a chance of making the last four.

Udeze said he still can’t believe Eboboritse Uwejamomereare’s side lost to a team like Niger.

“I still can’t process it, I can’t believe the Golden Eaglets lost to a team like Niger Republic,” Udeze said on BRILA FM.

“We have talents all over the place. If you are talking about talents, they are everywhere in the country, so I find it hard to understand that we lost to Niger Republic.”
