Human rights activist and political commentator Omoyele Sowore has strongly criticised the idea of a foreign country establishing a military base in Nigeria, warning that such a move should be resisted.
Reacting to reports suggesting that Turkey may be considering a military presence in the country, Sowore expressed strong opposition, arguing that Nigeria should not allow any foreign military installation on its soil.
“It’s terr!bl£ that a country like Turkey is coming to establish a mil!tary base in Nigeria. We should resist any form of foreign entity coming to Nigeria to establish a base, they should be resisted with any form of energy in our body,” he said.
He further argued that Nigeria must prioritise self-reliance in national defence rather than depend on foreign powers.
“If we can’t defend ourselves, then we should go and sell this country on Temu,” he added.
The comments have since sparked debate online, with Nigerians divided over concerns about sovereignty, national security, and international military cooperation.
