Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a worrying update on Bukayo Saka’s injury after the winger was forced off during the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
Saka sustained a thigh injury, reportedly involving his quadriceps, just 10 minutes into Wednesday’s encounter after going down in pain and signalling for a substitution.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Everton, Arteta confirmed that the England international would undergo further medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury.
“He’s got another MRI this afternoon because he had quite a lot of fluid in the area, so it was difficult to understand the extent of the injury. We will know more probably tomorrow,” Arteta explained.
The Arsenal boss also admitted that the initial signs were concerning, noting that Saka struggled to walk without pain and experienced restricted movement.
“We need a few more scans and opinions from the specialists. When a player has to walk off the pitch and is struggling to walk without any pain, they are not good signs,” he added.
Arteta urged patience as the club awaits a definitive diagnosis, with no confirmed return date available for the 25-year-old winger. Saka has been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Everton, leaving Arsenal to assess their attacking options as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
The Gunners will hope further examinations provide clarity on the extent of the injury and how long their influential forward could be sidelined.
