Human rights campaigner Omoyele Sowore has shared fresh insights into what he claims happened behind the scenes during the #EndSARS protests, including the involvement of Afrobeats star Davido.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Sowore said that although the protest movement had identifiable leaders, the government was uneasy about figures it could not influence or control.

“#EndSARS had leaders, but the problem was that the government didn’t want it to be led by people they cannot control,” he said.

Sowore went on to mention Davido, stating that he was actively involved in meetings during the protests.

He alleged that things changed when Davido travelled to Abuja for a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

“Davido was attending every #EndSARS meeting. When he got to Abuja to meet with the IGP, before he got upstairs, they were telling him they want to investigate him for the murder of one of his aides. By the time he got upstairs, he said, ‘I didn’t come to Abuja to protest,” he added.

These claims have sparked renewed discussions about the #EndSARS protests a nationwide movement in 2020 that called for an end to police brutality, particularly abuses associated with the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
