Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta blocked the Gunners from signing Chelsea striker Joao Pedro during the summer transfer window.

Pedro, according to BBC Sport, was on Arsenal’s list of potential transfer targets, but the club ultimately chose not to pursue an official offer.

Arteta was receptive to the idea of signing a new striker following Viktor Gyokeres’ inconsistent first season at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were looking at other options, with Julian Alvarez also on their list. However, the Atletico Madrid forward was hesitant to return to the Premier League, preferring a transfer to Barcelona.

Arsenal officials showed interest in Chelsea’s Pedro following his commendable first season at Stamford Bridge.

Pedro netted 20 goals across all competitions and has scored two goals in four matches so far this season.

However, he had a less impactful role in Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.

Arsenal were said to have opted against pursuing Pedro as Mikel Arteta was ‘concerned’ about the Brazilian’s ability to integrate into his system.
