When a marriage becomes difficult, divorce is not always the first option couples consider. Some spouses choose to live separately while remaining legally married, giving themselves time and space to decide what they want for the future.

Some couples may not be in a position to immediately separate their finances or make decisions about jointly owned assets.
Living apart can sometimes give them time to make these arrangements carefully rather than making rushed decisions during an emotionally difficult period.

For some, separation provides a way to create distance from the relationship while maintaining certain family or social connections.
