A woman has shared the unconventional advice her mother gave her when she disclosed that she was going on a date with a pilot.
She said that her mother asked her whose idea the date was and she admitted it was hers.
She said her mother then informed her that she has to be the one to pay for the date.
She said: “I had a date with this Edo guy, he is a private pilot, and told my mother about the date, location, and time. She already know who he is, but I needed to let her know of my movement and location.
“We have met by chance, twice, and we have briefly spoken to each other on phone; always when I am at work, so the calls don’t last.
“I wanted to know more about him.
“Momma: who asked and invited who on this date?
“Me: I asked and invited him on this date.
“Momma: OK, you will foot the bills.
“Me: Why?
“Momma: Because you asked and invited him. So the bills are on you.
“Me: oh, ok.
“Momma: But what were you thinking?
“Me: I thought it would be shared.
“Momma: All the time of your life you’ve followed me on dates I invited your father in, have you ever seen me allowing him pay for anything we consumed?
“Me: Gosh. The ones I can remember, you always win in the arguments of who foots the bills. But I thought it was just you two.
“Momma: It is applicable in every date, married or not.
“Me: ok.
“Momma: If he had been the one that asked and invited you, he will foot the bills. In fact, seeing how poorly some men were raised, I would have advised you to discuss the bill with him first, before agreeing to the date. So that if he is a fùck-boy, you will just cancel the date.
“Momma: Whoever asks or invites the other to a date, pays the bills with it. You are like a host, while he is like a guest. A host takes care of his or her guest.
“Me: I have been reading wrong on the Internet.
“Momma: Internet is not always a good place for realities. Most of your enlightenment or ignorance will always come from home, your first, natural base.
“I hugged her and left for work.
“The date happened and I did as I learnt from my mother. I felt so good, though I am never seeing him again because of the small small patriarchal attitudes and words, laced with narcissism, I saw in him as he opened his mouth and closed it later.
“The first time i am spending real time with him. I paid the bill, even though he strongly attempted paying the bills himself, and i told him right there that I will not be seeing him again.
“I have blocked his number because of his unending calls.
“I love you, Momma.”
