Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has issued a scathing assessment of Brazil following their shocking 2-1 loss to Norway in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland stepped up when it was crucial, heading Norway into the lead in the 80th minute and then scoring a second goal ten minutes later, leading the Scandinavian team to a remarkable victory over the five-time world champions at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
Neymar managed to score from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time, but it was merely a consolation as Brazil faced their earliest World Cup elimination since 1990.
This historic win also marked Norway’s advancement to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in the nation’s history.
In response to the outcome, Oliseh expressed his disappointment regarding Brazil’s fall from the formidable force that once instilled fear in their rivals, asserting that the current team lacks the identity and caliber that established the Seleção as one of football’s greatest squads.
The 1994 and 1998 World Cup star shared on X, “Erling Haaland’s second goal tells you everything you need to know. Look at the tactical shape, look at the body language—the Brazil we used to know, is completely gone.
“This Brazil side is sadly and completely playing “ordinary”. Bravo Norway. This world cup continues to amaze!”
Norway’s reward for their historic triumph over Brazil is a quarterfinal match against either Mexico or England in Miami on July 11.
