Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, made history after his team earlier defeated Cape Verde 3-2 in the World Cup Round of 32 encounter.

Messi scored the first goal for Argentina against Cape Verde to become the first player in the history of the FIFA World Cup to score seven or more goals in two different editions of the tournament (2022 and 2026).

The 39-year-old also reached 30 matches played in World Cups, becoming the first footballer to reach this milestone in history.

The Inter Miami forward has scored 12 goals in his last 8 World Cup matches against Australia, Netherlands, Croatia, France, Algeria, Austria, Jordan and Cape Verde

The former Barcelona captain will now hope to lead Argentina to victory when they face Egypt in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
