Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has reacted strongly to comments made by media personality Daddy Freeze, making it clear that no one has the authority to dictate how he should feel about his late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Seun addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, after Daddy Freeze advised him to avoid actions that could pull Fela’s legacy into social media conflicts.

The controversy follows an online feud earlier in January, sparked by claims from Wizkid’s fans that the Grammy-winning artiste had surpassed Fela’s influence on the global music scene. Seun, who is well known for fiercely protecting his father’s legacy and political ideals, responded at the time with several videos that triggered widespread reactions online.

Daddy Freeze later weighed in on the issue, urging Seun to rise above the rivalry and protect Fela’s image, describing the late Afrobeat legend as “everybody’s papa” in Nigeria’s music history.

In response, Seun rejected the advice, insisting that his relationship with Fela is personal and not subject to public control. Speaking directly to Daddy Freeze during the live session, he said:

“Oga, I don’t drag your father with you. You father your father in your house. Nobody comes to drag him with you. I cannot tell you how to protect your father. I cannot tell you how to feel about your father, Freeze. And I’m saying this live because you sef fall my hand live. You cannot tell me how to feel about my dad, you don’t have that power.”

Seun stressed that he would never disgrace his father, but added that Fela would not have ignored claims suggesting another artiste was greater than him if he were still alive.

He also pointed out that people should take responsibility for their own actions rather than blaming others, noting that insults against Fela did not start with his recent remarks. According to Seun, the Afrobeat icon had faced repeated disrespect over the years, yet many chose to remain silent until now.

“Daddy Freeze shouldn’t tell me about how to feel about my father. If Fela was alive, would he be mute comparing him to Wizkid? Ever since Burna boy gave me this chain, they haven’t rest.”
