Croatia and RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has picked Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi as the best attacker he has faced in his career.

He also highlighted the difference between Messi playing for La Albiceleste and PSG.

Gvardiol was one of the top performers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as he manned the Croatian defence perfectly until the semifinal clash with Argentina.

The Leipzig defender could do little to stop Messi and his teammates as Croatia fell 3-0 to the tournament winners.

Messi scored once from the spot and assisted Julian Alvarez for the South Americans’ third goal of the match.

“He has a completely different profile in the club than in the national team.

“For me, he’s the best player I’ve had to defend against so far. He’s small and all you can do is foul or tackle him,” Gvardiol told BILD.
