Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone has admitted his side only have themselves to blame as they lost 1-0 in a LaLiga tie at home to Barcelona on Sunday.

Simeone said his Atletico Madrid players were not forceful enough against Barcelona in order to get a better result at the Estadio Metropolitano.

Ousmane Dembele’s early goal gave Barcelona all three points against Atletico Madrid as Ferran Torres and Stefan Savic were sent off for an off-the-ball tussle.

The defeat to Barcelona means Atletico Madrid end the weekend outside of the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.

“The reality is we lost. It’s true the team deserved to get a better result, which did not appear because we were not forceful enough,” Simeone said as per Marca after the game.

“The two penalty areas are decisive. We did more good things than bad.

“After a poor first 20 minutes, the team competed as I wanted, but that did not change the result,” he added.

Atletico Madrid’s next fixture is against Almeria next weekend.
