Landlords, residents and business owners have been rejoicing following the restoration of electricity after experiencing darkness for two years in Komkom Komkom community, in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was reported that the development came after the inauguration of the rehabilitated Komkom 33 KVA feeder station in the community by the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.

During the inauguration of the project on Monday, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the power firm, Benson Uwheru, expressed happiness that the company’s customers in the area could now enjoy power supply.

Uwheru, while being represented by the Regional Head of the firm, Kenneth Idemudia, urged the community to see the facility as their own by protecting it and also paying their bills in order to enjoy uninterrupted supply.

He said,

“With all shades of joy, our mission today is to commission and restore power supply to the Komkom community. Indeed, it is our pleasure to have this community return to our network again because we understand the yearnings of our customers in this community.

“It is for this reason that we solely decided to fund this project and ensure that electric power supply is restored to our much-esteemed customers in Komkom.”

“However, it was not an easy journey but we were resolute about achieving this feat, and I am happy that we are all here to witness this ceremony today.”

On why the sub-station was shut down, Uwheru said there were issues surrounding it but noted that everything had been resolved.

Uwheru added,

“Therefore, I will encourage us to live up to our obligations and commitments as customers by paying our bills fully, regularly and promptly, and by taking ownership of the electrical infrastructures in your community.

“Ensure that they are safe and protected, desist from acts of economic sabotage, meter by-pass, vandalism, assault, and other illegalities that negate the cordial conversations we have had.”

On his part, the Chairman of the council, Okechukwu Nworgu, who was represented by one Chimerize Nwaorgu, commended the power firm for restoring power in the area.

A representative of the community, Precious Enworuka, said the community had shown the company enough goodwill and as such deserved an improved power supply.

The community chief noted that while they lived in darkness, several efforts were made to dissuade youths of the area from embarking on destructive protests and urged the power firm’s field workers to be civil in their approach while carrying out their job.
