Three residents have been feared dead and many vehicles destroyed following an attack by gunmen on Dabna, a rural community in Hong local government area of Adamawa State.
It was reported that the attack took place in the early hours of Monday.
The attackers, who were said to have entered the village in motorcycles, allegedly left with food items after the attack.
Samuel Naci, a witness who spoke on the incident Monday afternoon, said,
“The attackers came in two motorbikes in the wee hours of today shooting sporadically, killing three in the process.”
He said one of the vigilantes in the community shot at one of the attackers but the vigilante was taken away by the attackers
In a statement following the attack, Adamawa Commissioner of Police CP Afolabi Babatola, condemned the incident, assuring that the attackers would be identified and made to face the law.
“The CP warns that attacks on innocent souls would no longer be tolerated under whatsoever guise, as the command holds the lives of citizens sacrosanct, and such unwarranted attitude would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws,” the police statement said.
It said the police boss appealed for calm “as the command is doing everything legally possible to detect and apprehend the suspects.”
