The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji has restated his commitment to ensure Muslims get adequate and fair representation in his executive council (exco).
The governor, who made this known yesterday while receiving the leadership of National Council of Muslim Youths Organisation (NACOMYO), led by its Coordinator, Mudasiru Yusuf, at his Ikogosi-Ekiti country home, appreciated the youth for coming to celebrate the Easter festivities with him.
He said the cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians remained a source of joy for him, adding that he would ensure only devout Muslims were appointed into his exco to represent their interest.
Thanking the Muslim community for their support during and after the election, Oyebanji assured them that he would not disappoint them or take the confidence reposed in him for granted.
Oyebanji said,
“I don’t know how to express my appreciation to you. As I walked in, one thing that crossed my mind is that we are celebrating Easter and these are my Muslim brothers coming to celebrate with me. I can’t but thank God for your lives and also thank you for your support.
“I keep remembering our first meeting, it was stormy and at the end of the day when we resolved the issues, you gave me your words that you would go out and work for my candidacy, and the kind of mobilisation I got from the Muslim community towards my election was massive and I made certain promises to you that we would run this government together. I’m reconfirming this promise to you.
“I am conscious of what you said, my brothers, about the issue of marginalisation. We will try our best and you can see that the few we have done, we have tried our best to ensure the Muslim community is well represented.
“I will continue to identify with you and all the promise I made to you, by His grace, I will fulfil them.”
The state Coordinator of NACOMYO, Mudasiru Yusuf, said the purpose of their visit was to felicitate the governor on Easter celebrations and congratulate him on his victory at the Supreme Court, which reaffirmed his election as the governor.
He described the victory as divine and a reflection of the collective wishes of the good people of Ekiti State.
Yusuf prayed for a successful and impactful tenure for the governor, saying his administration had started putting smiles on the faces of the people through some of his developmental programmes.
