Five out of the eight House of Representatives members-elect of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ondo State are reportedly rooting for Hon Idris Wase to emerge Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
It was reported that the remaining three members-elect have either opted to remain neutral or support somebody they believe would provide better leadership irrespective of zoning formula adopted by the APC.
The source, who allayed fears about a possible hijack of the House leadership by the opposition political parties, said the APC would work hard to ensure preferred leaders emerged.
Others in the race for the Speakership included Chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Muktar Betara; Chairman, House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gadgi and Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity, Benjamin Kalu.
Another source said the Ondo APC members-elect in support of Wase would toe the line of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
It was learnt that some of the first time lawmakers were making moves to be made Chairmen of Committees that would enable them deliver returns to their constituents.
According to the source,
“We are not too worried about the PDP or other opposition political parties. Our worry is betrayal from our party members.
“There is no way we will allow opposition hijack the leadership of the 10th Assembly. We are working on the opposition lawmakers as they are planning to get at ours.”
