Kaduna State governor-elect, Senator Uba Sani, has urged Nigerian political leaders to prioritize the security and welfare of citizens by putting in place policies that would uplift their standard of living.
The governor-elect, who stated this in a goodwill message to mark Eid-el-Fitr in Kaduna on Friday, also sued for unity and peaceful co-existence of citizens of the state regardless of religious and ethnic affinities.
The governor-elect, while praying for God’s guidance in the governance of the state, noted that democracy could only be sustained by prioritizing the security and welfare of the common man.
Against this background, Sani, who is the incumbent senator representing Kaduna Central at the Upper Chambers, said ahead of the May 29 inauguration,
“we are assembling a formidable team of technocrats and politicians that will hit the ground running.”
“As we look to the future with hope, we pray for Allah’s guidance. May He give us the courage to face whatever may come our way. May He bring our people together to work for the common good. May forgiveness, love, patience, goodness, kindness, compassion and mercy be our watchwords.
“If we fail to rise up to our responsibilities, democracy will cease to make meaning to our people. It is by making our people happy and secure that we can sustain and deepen this democracy.
“We are keen to build on the good foundation laid by my leader and mentor, Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai. We shall further raise the bar of governance and make Kaduna State the model of development and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.”
