Three men on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing and receiving stolen cables valued N65 million.

The defendants are, Jude Jeremiah, 29, a tiler; Chika Okonkwo, 40, a trader, who reside within Onipanu area of Lagos, and Chukwudi Okoya, a trader, who lives at 19, Ibi Osi Street, Mushin, Lagos.

The trio are being tried for conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed between March 27 and April 4, at Ajegunle Street, Ilupeju, Lagos.

Akeem alleged that the first defendant, Jeremiah, who worked as a tiler at the site of the complainant, Alhaji Ibrahim Shonoiki, stole cables worth N6.5 million, which he sold to the second and third defendants.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until July 27 for mention.
