Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has warned the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election in the state, David Umbugadu, not to be too desperate to govern the state.
Sule in a press statement made available to our correspondent yesterday in Lafia, advice Umbugadu to allow the judiciary look into the petition he submitted against him.
“It is no longer news that the State chapter of the PDP and its governorship candidate, have approached the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia. They are challenging the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule which indeed, is within their constitutional right to do so.
“We however condemn in the strongest terms, the resort to media trial of a matter that is already before a lawfully constituted Tribunal as witnessed in the series of sponsored publications in some sections of both the conventional and social media platforms. We view this show of desperation by the PDP and its candidate as a clear indication that the petitioners have no confidence in the issue(s) they are challenging at the Tribunal. Why should the party resort to media propaganda rather than allow the matter to be decided on its merit?
“It is worrisome that, since the defeat of Hon. David Ombugadu in the governorship election by His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, the opposition PDP has thrown caution in the winds by resorting to sponsorship of nude protests in the streets of Lafia and all sorts of blackmail in the desperation to get the mandate freely given to the Governor by the people of the State upturned. Why should the petitioners try to be judges in their own case?
“His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule remains committed to delivering on the mandate freely given to him by consolidating on the gains already achieved by his administration. As a respecter of the rule of law, His Excellency has confidence in the judiciary and will rather await the determination of the matter before the Tribunal,” the statement said.
