Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Akeredolu, has suspended activities lined up to celebrate her 70th birthday.

This is coming after critics questioned the celebration plans amid her husband’s ill health.

In a Twitter post yesterday, Mrs. Akeredolu announced that the birthday celebration had been suspended ‘due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control’.

The tweet reads,

“Hello Family and Friends. This is to inform you that all activities lined up to mark my 70th birthday are hereby suspended till further notice due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this development.

“Nevertheless, be assured that I will be celebrated in style upon my return. Thank you for your understanding. I remain Arabinrin a.k.a Ada Owere I.”

In another Twitter post accompanied by a photo of her birthday flyer, she said that as long as there is life, ‘Owambe’ (party) can come at any time.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said prayers offered by different denominations across the country have been an inspiration for divine intervention in his restoration.

The governor spoke at the 2nd Session of the 14th Synod of the Diocese of Akure, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties and Union Matters, Dare Aragbaye, the governor assured the delegates that he would continue to serve the people with unwavering dedication and commitment.

He said,

“The theme of this synod, ‘Do Your Best For the Lord’, is our signpost in government. We are committed to doing our best for our people in honour of God and He, the Almighty God, the ultimate authority who blesses all efforts, will take over.”

Archbishop of Ondo Province, who is also Bishop of Akure Diocese and President of the Synod, Rev. Oluwole Borokini, praised the Akeredolu’s administration for successful implementation of projects across the state. The cleric said the introduction of the State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, helped to curb crime and criminality.

He said,

“God has really used the introduction of Amotekun to curb kidnapping to a large extent. I use this opportunity to admonish all elected officials to come out of the euphoria of victory in the last election and concentrate on the purpose of your elections as the end of your four-year tenure is just around the corner.”

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Tolu Babaleye, has admonished Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to be bold enough to exercise full powers of an Acting Governor.

Chief Babaleye urged Aiyedatiwa to convene State Executive Council and Security Council meetings to discuss and take far reaching decisions on economic and security situations, especially palliatives for the masses as a result of fuel subsidy removal and insecurity in certain parts of the state.

He also cautioned some political appointees to exercise restraint at opposing Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
