Talented TV personality, Kie Kie has addressed ‘competitive sufferers’, berating individuals who have seemingly made suffering a competition.
She illustrated how people attempted to make light of other’s travails by rendering even more pathetic stories making hardship feel like some sort of competition.
Born Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, the content creator demonstrating in her mannerism went;
“Please, dear Nigerians, I want to know. Why has suffering become a competition? To the point that somebody will say, ‘Ah! Yesterday, we trekked from Lekki to Obalende. Another will come and say, ‘Oh! That’s small now. We trekked from Ikoyi to Yaba.’
“Another person will hiss and say, ‘Ordinary Ikoyi to Yaba?! The day we trekked from Ikoyi to Ikeja it was bad because it was raining the previous day and on that day.
“There was flooding everywhere. Come and see the mud. Our shoes, clothes…we were soaked from head to toe. In fact, when they saw us in our area, people were crying and weeping for us.
“Somebody will now come and say, ‘But Ikoyi to Ikeja is not bad now. The day that we we trekked, we trekked from Ikoyi all the way to Ikorodu and they were even robbing on that day. Come and see how they were just shooting sporadically and people were just running in different directions.
“You will think that’s the worst. Another person will just hiss and say, ‘The trek that you people are trekking in Lagos is small now. Come and see us in Ijebu Ode’.
The mother of one subsequently appealing to ‘competitive sufferers’ added,
“But seriously, what is happening? Why is suffering now a competition? You people have now turned suffering to ladder you’re climbing. Please and please, you guys should take it easy; thanks!”
