Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy has ranked himself on the same level with American music legends.
The ‘African Giant’ lamented the lack of faith and belief of Nigerians towards him.
Burna Boy made the assertion in an interview with Los Angeles Times.
The ‘stand tall’ crooner expressed displeasure at how Nigerians often rate upcoming American rappers above him because of the manner in which he speaks on issues.
According to him, his forthcoming album titled: ‘I Told Them’ is a response to naysayers who have attempted to discredit him at the beginning of his career and now.
Burna Boy also recalled how American songs used to dominate Nigerian media houses’ playlists, but the emergence of Afrobeats has redefined it.
He said,
“To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it.
“They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artist.”
