The Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi has vowed to appeal the judgment upholding the election of Francis Nwifuru as the Governor of the state.
The party also urged its supporters in the state to remain calm and peaceful, assuring that the party would reclaim its mandates at the appellate court.
The Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Ifeanyi Nworie, disclosed this while speaking to journalists immediately after the judgment was delivered.
He said,
“We are dissatisfied with the judgment. The party is convinced and would be going for appeal. Thank God the tribunal admitted that the issue of membership and defection can be tried in the court and at the appeal court. We call on our members to be calm. Justice delayed is not always justice denied. ”
PDP governorship candidate counsel, Ifeanyi Idoko, said their client would appeal the judgment.
He said they were specifically displeased with the tribunal’s ruling on the issue of Francis Nwifuru’s membership of the APC.
Idoko said,
“This is just the first step we still have the court of appeal. We will test this judgment at the court of appeal. We are not satisfied with the judgment. We are particularly displeased on the issue of his membership. We brought our petition based on section 177 of the constitution. The issue of qualification is both pre and post-election matter. We will be testing that at the appeal. As we get the judgement we would also point out other issues to canvass for at the court of appeal.”
