Jada Pinkett Smith, the American actress and talk show host, has shed light on her separation from actor husband Will Smith.
The 52-year-old revealed that they have been leading “completely separate lives” since 2016, as she disclosed during a clip from her upcoming NBC News primetime special with Hoda Kotb.
She said that she and Will Smith didn’t make their divorce public because they weren’t “ready yet” at the time. It was not a divorce on paper but it was a divorce. Since 2016, we have been living apart.”
The couple got married in 1997 and were blessed with two children – a boy named Jaden, and a girl called Willow.
Pinkett-Smith stated that their upcoming divorce would be impossible to carry out due to a commitment they made to each other to never divorce.
She said,
“Why it fractured, that’s a lot of things,” the actress stated, “I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted from trying. I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be. I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce, We will work through whatever, and I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
