Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and some elders of the state jetted to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday morning for possible reconciliation of the crisis that rocked the State House of Assembly and the move to impeach the governor.

Recall that some elders of the state held a closed-door meeting with Fubara in Government House on Monday evening just when he was about to brief the press, as the scheduled event was called off abruptly after newsmen were kept waiting for over three hours.

The newsmen, available in Government House on Monday evening, saw the elders arrive, and were immediately ushered into the brick house, the governor’s official residence in the stated seat of power, in an apparent move to reconcile the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his political godson, Fubara.

Those seen include the Chairman, Rivers Elders Forum, Chief Ferdinand Anabraba, former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Chief Onueze Okocha, SAN, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council, Chief Ohia Sergent Awuse, the former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Felix Obuah, former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ken Chikere among others.

It was gathered that Monday’s meeting with the governor dragged into the night, although the outcome is still unknown.

But on Tuesday morning, it was gathered that some of the elders met the governor again, and all of them proceeded to the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, where they flew to Abuja.

A close source in the State Government House media unit confirmed the governor’s trip to Abuja on Tuesday morning.

When contacted, the media aide to the governor, Boniface Onyedi, denied knowledge if his boss had left for the FCT, saying,

“I don’t know yet. I will let you know when I find out.”

However it was reported that the governor’s escort vehicles were spotted along Aba Road as news filtered that they had driven Fubara to the Airport and were returning to the Government House.

It is learned that they will meet Wike to ensure that the political crisis in the state does not get out of hand.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara also congratulated the member representing Ahoada East Constituency II, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, for emerging as the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly urged him to uphold the sanctity of the law and legislature.

Fubara’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday morning and sent to newsmen.
