The 2025 January transfer window is entering its final week, with some Nigerian players having already joined new clubs this month, while others await their fate amid transfer links before the end of the winter window in the coming days.

NEWSUNPLUG takes a look at some of the Nigerian players who have joined new clubs, those who could remain with their present clubs despite transfer links and others who are keen to leave their current club.

Emmanuel Dennis

Dennis recently completed a move to Danish club Brøndby, signing a contract until the summer of 2028.

The Nigerian striker has been without a club since he was released by Premier League club, Nottingham Forest last summer.

The 28-year-old, however, impressed during his trial period with Brøndby and was rewarded with a contract.

Victor Moses

Moses signed a one-year contract with Kazakhstan Premier League club, FC Kaysar Kyzylorda a few days ago.

The former Super Eagles winger last played for English League One club Luton Town before he joined the two-time Kazakh Cup champions.

The 35-year-old Nigerian had played for clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Inter Milan, West Ham United and Crystal Palace in the past.

Precious Benjamin

Benjamin joined Austrian club, Altach on loan last week until the end of the season.

The Flying Eagles striker, who is currently under contract with Bundesliga club, TSG Hoffenheim, was Altach’s first winter signing.

The 19-year-old joined Hoffenheim just over a year ago and has been a regular member of the first team squad this season before his loan move to Altach.

Muhammad Tijani

Tijani joined Hungarian club Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old, who joined Spartacus from Slavia Prague, has spent the last three seasons on loan away from the Czech giants.

The former Flying Eagles striker was loaned to Plymouth Argyle and Sigma Olomouc, respectively, in the past.

William Troost-Ekong

Troost-Ekong joined Qatar Stars League side, Al Ahli SC from Saudi club Al Kholood last week.

The former Super Eagles captain signed a contract with his new club until June 2028.

The experienced centre-back won his first trophy [UAE-Qatar Super Cup] with Al Ahli, thanks to a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Al Jazira on Sunday.

Meanwhile, there are still other Nigerian players who are still linked with a move from their present clubs and could make a move to new clubs or still remain at their current club this January transfer window.

Raphael Onyedika

The Super Eagles midfielder is eager to leave Club Brugge before the end of the January transfer window.

Galatasaray have a keen interest in Onyedika and have reportedly agreed personal terms with his representatives.

Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen recently revealed that he has been trying to persuade Onyedika and also Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman to join him at the Turkish Super Lig champions.

It’s yet to be seen if Onyedika will end up joining Osimhen at Galatasaray, as Club Brugge has, however, rejected Galatasaray’s bid  for the 24-year-old Nigerian

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Trabzonspor is keen to sign Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from Lazio.

Dele-Bashiru has received an official offer from the Turkish Super Lig club, but he has yet to decide on whether to join them despite the attractive nature of the offer.

The 24-year-old is also attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, but the Premier League club is yet to make an official offer.

Terem Moffi

Moffi is a subject of interest from FC Porto and Beşiktaş, respectively.

The Nigerian international is seeking an exit from his current club, OGC Nice, after he was assaulted alongside Ivorian Coast international Jeremie Boga by the club’s fans last November.

The 26-year-old has not made an appearance for the French Ligue 1 club since the incident and has requested that his contract be terminated, which would allow him to join a new club.

Frank Onyeka

Sheffield United have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Super Eagles midfielder, Frank Onyeka from Brentford.

The Sky Bet Championship club has formally enquired about Onyeka, who has struggled for regular playing time at Brentford this season.

Brentford would consider a loan with an option to buy for the 28-year-old, who has also been linked with Spanish LaLiga club Valencia.

Salim Fago Lawal

Lawal is closing in on a transfer to Azerbaijani giants Qarabağ FK from Croatian club, NK Istra 1961.

The 23-year-old’s move is expected to be finalised in the next couple of days as NK Istra will earn €2m as a transfer fee.

Lawal, who was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, joined NK Istra from Mavlon Academy less than two years ago.

Ademola Lookman

Lookman was recently identified as a transfer target for Serie A champions Napoli.

The Partenopei will look to bring Lookman to Naples before the end of the January transfer window.

However, Napoli will face stiff competition from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce as both Turkish Super Lig giants are interested in the Nigerian forward.

Speaking with DAILY POST on Monday, Media Consultant and Football Development Expert, Ibrahim Lawal, explained that one of the reasons players seek to switch clubs in the January transfer window is to get more playing time elsewhere.

Lawal, however, wished that Nigerian players like Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka would get regular playing time if they ended up switching their current clubs for new ones.

“Well, one of the reasons players seek to leave their clubs for another one in the January transfer window is to get more playing game-time elsewhere,” Lawal said.

“Because the January period is like halfway to the season, and players who failed to get more playing time are eager to leave in the January transfer window.

“Mind you, it’s also sometimes difficult to get top players in the January transfer window because most clubs will refuse to let go of their star players, only if there is an issue between these top star players and their clubs.

“When it comes to the Nigerian players, well, I am happy because we just concluded the AFCON tournament in Morocco and the Super Eagles players all did well.

“So the AFCON was like a means of advertising these players, and Onyedika, Lookman and Onyeka attracting interest is a good one.

“I just hope that when these Nigerian players switch clubs, they will end up getting regular game-time,” he said.
