Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere can’t hide his disappointment following his team’s 1-0 defeat to France, NEWSUNPLUG reports.
The defeat was Nigeria’s second at the ongoing 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Maissa Fathallah scored the winning goal for France nine minutes from time.
The Flamingos lost their first game 4-1 to Canada.
They must now beat Samoa in their last game on Saturday to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout round.
Olowookere said it was heartbreaking to concede late in the game.
“The game we played against France was much better than the one against Canada. If we had shown the same kind of fight in that first game, I don’t think we’d be in the situation we’re in now,” he was quoted by FIFA.com.
It was really unfortunate to concede that late goal, it was painful, heartbreaking even. We’ll just keep working hard and see if we can get something out of it to stay in the tournament.”
