2025 U-17 WWC: Olowookere Rues Missed Chances In Flamingos’ Loss To Canada

Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere blamed missed chances for his side’s heavy defeat to Canada.

The Nigerian girls started their campaign at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 4-1 loss to the North Americans.

Canada took the lead in the second minute through Gabriela Istocki

Queen Joseph pounced on a loose ball to equalise for the Flamingos on the half hour mark.

Canada goalkeeper, Khadijah Cisse made several smart stops to frustrate the Flamingos.

The Flamingos however paid for those misses with Canada scoring thrice late in the game through Julia Amireh (brace), and Melisa Kekic.

Olowookere is ready to move on from the defeat, and concentrate on their next game.

“This was a huge game. Sometimes mistakes happen. We had our chances at the first half. We didn’t take advantage of them and we paid dearly for it,” Olowookere was quoted by FIFA.com.

“I think it’s a lesson we’ll keep learning, and then we’ll go back and watch how we played and see how we bounce back.”

The Flamingos will take on France in their next game in Rabat on Wednesday.
