Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has shared his thoughts on the contentious goal scored by Calvin Bassey against South Africa, NEWSUNPLUG reports.

Bassey’s equalising header in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday has been generating discussion among fans pundits.

The Fulham defender nodded home Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s superb cross on the stroke of half-time but the ball hit his hand while going into the net.

The goal stood despite protest from South African players with no VAR to check the incident.

Akpeyi said it was difficult for the referee to spot the foul.

“With the referee standing behind, he couldn’t get the view of the action, so he was also a bit far away from the action,” Akpeyi said after the game.
